Earller in the day, I wrote about being subject to a spam attack. Now I discover that there have in fact been thousands of (apparently real) people clicking on to a post I wrote in January last year. It was about my concerns that BCUK was in danger of being turned into a social networking site, and I tagged it "facebook lite".

Now it so happens that this phrase has become suddenly trendy. There's been a rumour going round that Facebook is going to challenge Twitter by starting something which has been labelled Facebook Lite.

And for some reason, my post - although not relevant to this new development, now confirmed on the BBC website - has been picked up Google. A few minutes ago, if you searched for "Facebook Lite", my old post came up third in a list of over forty million

Now I'm not suggestting my post is worth reading, or that many people got beyond the first few words or it matters if they did. But it is an illustration of the incredible and lets face indiscriminate power of the search engine.
