The sun rises every morning - it tells me the time in my diary.

The sun sets and we say "ooh, aah!" because it often looks pretty beautiful.

So what's this about the earth revolving round the sun?

Why are we taught this nonsense at school, going against the grain of common sense and our own language?

Even the French think the sun does all the work. The French word for east, "l'Orient" means rising, "L'Occident", west, where the sun falls - sets.

Can anyone tell me of a language where people admire "earth rises" every evening?

I think there's an intellectual conspiracy. Yes, some scientists have a theory - like evolution - but there are other theories - like Intelligent Design.

So how about a campaign to have Solar Common Sense included in the School Science Curriculum?
