This absurd pretense that the pavement is not a public space - and therefore you are allowed to smoke as much as you like the faces of fellow pedestrians - needs to change, and fast.
But most smokers seem to think it's somewhere to celebrate the Magna-Carta rights of an Englishman to help everyone share the joys of passive smoking. There doesn't even appear to be a shred of a publicity campaign to suggest civility or sensitivity in the matter. I tell ya - there's no joy from a stranger's smoke in your eyes.
Just now I stupidly nearly got run over trying to avoid a guys waltz-walking from side to side of a broad pavement. Offices back on to the road I live - and there's a pub at either end. A smoker's paradise. Not mine.
No, I am not being "politically correct" I just want to heard all smokers up, seal them all in the Dome 02, and turn the oxygen off for a while.

It's a tricky one. I believe smoking is a choice that they have made which the government has allowed and facilitated for many many years, and people should be allowed to do it without having to stand outside in the rain like dogs or on busy roads - I know of someone who was hit by a car because a bouncer wouldnt let him stand under a bit of shelter near a club, and he had to go into the road! - but I'm also with you on the pavement being a public space, really, which contradicts the whole point of the smoking ban. I notice the smoke from one cigarette wafting in my face in the street far more than I ever did in a smoky pub, and it's disgusting, and makes me cough. So, I cough on the person doing it, and when I get my inhalers next week, I'll be taking a highly visual puff on that too.
I am aware that I haven't made a point, really...
