Yes. Of course I know I can be trusted. I have done nothing to make me untrustworty. I was just attempting a sardonic comment - still, after 65 years, my mother finds it impossible to truat me.

Well, your post made me think of the many times I have asked that question myself. Especially when it comes to my children. 'Can I be trusted?' is a question of such a wide spectrum! Can I be trusted to let them go when they are ready? Can I be trusted to give in a little every now and then? Can I be trusted always to make the right decisions? (The answer is 'no' to that one, by the way)
One thing that we seem to have in common, then, is the fact that my mother does not trust me either. Then again, if she approved of me I'd be very suspicious.

"Can I be trusted to let go of my children when they are rready?" is a wonderful to question to ask yourself. It has never occured to my mother, aged 93 next week, to let go. That is where the hurt is - and perhaps one of the main reasons I have never had cheildren of my own. Sad.

You can be trusted to ask yourself whether you can be trusted. Asking is already a big step, it implies awareness.
