MPs are allowed to claim up to £10,000 for a new kitchen, more than £6,000 for a bathroom and £750 for a television on their parliamentary allowances, it was disclosed today. The prices are based on what they would have to pay at John Lewis stores.
But would it be worth the hassle of becoming an MP?

£750 for a television?! That will buy a wide-screen, high definition telly, wouldn't it? And there they are trying to encourage us to be environmentally aware!

Pro I just got a perfectly good LCD one - widescreen, but not quite as energy-consuming as plasma, and not HD - for £350. From John Lewis!

Pro Quite a perk eh? Could well be worth the inconvenience of having to show up at the house of commons whenever the party whip phones you up.
