The US constitution did not foresee the disenfranchising of a large tranche of the American population, those who did not vote for Bush and those whose votes were not counted, even though they - the people concerned - had legitimately made their votes. He then got two terms! Something askew there and a very good PR machine by then.
At least they've got a constitution, ours is notable by its absence and we have resorted to a default position instead. But at last and at least we've been able to do at least, that.
