this morning's 'odd-sock rejection' task has been to throw a way endless bits of useless paper - glossy free magazines about nothing, conditions of use for credit cards i destroyed on receiving, news of theatre productions in 2006 - careful to tare off personal identity info (2b shredded) & plastic envelope windows (not allowed).
at least here I'm allowed to recycle cardboard. in some (many?) rural districts you can be prosecuted if you don't take it directly to a dump, often way off a bus route. i suppose the councils are run by people who it should be illegal not to have a car.
anyway, i have broken off my task to write this - and think of reasons to postpone all further recycling sorting til at least tomorrow.
wouldn't the best way to cut out down on waste is for any mailshot - officially junk or not - to include a micropayment to the recipient to pay for the time and trouble for sorting & disposing of it?
that my this morning's Big Idea.

I get the occasional bank statement and prospectus and stuff, but most of it is just junk but it makes me feel loved

Or a hefty charge on printing the bloody things!
